We are thrilled to announce an exciting addition to the Harriet Tubman Museum and Education Center! This September, a new mural titled “Walking the Path” will grace the exterior rear wall of our museum.
This mural will depict a significant historical landscape—the path at Poplar Neck near the former Thompson Plantation in Caroline County, which was once traveled by Harriet Tubman herself. This location holds immense historical value, as it was a critical part of the Underground Railroad network that Tubman utilized during her daring rescue missions.
In preparation for this project, we had the privilege of taking
muralist Michael Rosato on a walk through this very path. Michael is no stranger to capturing the essence of Harriet Tubman’s journey, having created the iconic “Take My Hand” mural and the “Bucktown Store Mural” inside our museum. His ability to bring history to life through art is unparalleled, and we are excited to see his interpretation of this historic site.
As we continue to promote our walks and the natural environment of the Underground Railroad, “Walking the Path” will serve as a powerful visual representation of Tubman’s legacy and the landscapes she navigated. We believe this mural will be a striking new attraction, offering both an educational and emotional experience for all who visit.
Stay tuned for more updates on the mural’s progress, and we look forward to unveiling this tribute to Harriet Tubman’s enduring spirit.
